“ixi” is part of a triptych. Each work complex evolves around a kinetic virtual sculpture built on two “hyper-spaces” that slowly morph into one another over 12 hours. These spaces are experimental models of the universe, inspired by current research (2020) into the “theory of everything” — physicists’ search for a unified framework describing the universe and everything within it. Visitors experience “ixi’s” transparent, gradually shifting shell and light environment by moving through the sculpture and its surrounding representation of outer space, guided by a minimal soundscape. In the original 3D online experience, entering a spherical portal at the cen- ter catapults visitors onto a 17-minute trajectory around the sculpture accompanied by spatial sound. In the XR adaptation, this trajectory is replaced by walkable paths looping through and around the work. Commissioned by CTM Festival. VR version requested by SXSW for SXSW XR Online 2021.
