What
.ctu_isbtm is a work complex consisting of three larger glass objects, a collection of small glass objects and a scientific paper, which analyzes the objects and informs the viewer about their history. The work is experienced as a spatial installation in the physical space. Walking in between the generously spaced objects, which are placed on the floor, on a table and on the wall the viewer reflects on the origin and meaning of the objects.
The paper contextualizes the objects within the historical research into the origin of the milky way. It is written anew for each exhibition and all papers will be published in a book after ten exhibitions.

How
The objects are produced by accelerating organic compounds in water. The solidified organic objects then serve as positives for producing negative casting forms, which are filled with glass and heated in a furnace until the glass melts and forms the final glass object.
Byrke Lou produced the casting process at her university’s workshops.

Why
The artist followed the question how things emerge and why they become and are recognized as the things they are. After a six month long research phase she decided to concentrate on the Milky Way as the object of research, as the Milky Way is one of the longest observed objects.
She read the myths and scientific explanations of the Milky Way and examined how society produces facts. In parallel she started working with glass, as most scientific research is executed looking through glass.
