About
“bayes” is a work complex compromising a digital audio release, an audio cassette release and a series of performances with video, virtual extensions and choreography. The music is generated by live coded instruments and intertwined with synths and vocals generated by artificial intelligence algorithms. The visuals accompanying the performances are computer generated virtual worlds. „bayes“ was the first produced and officially released music using a new algorithm for AI sound synthesis developed by Google in early 2020. The name „bayes“ stems from „Bayes‘ Theorem“, published first in „An Essay towards solving a Problem in the Doctrine of Chances“ (1763). Bayes‘ Theorem helps to better determine the probability of an event and is now used widely in the field of machine learning / AI.
“bayes” can be purchased as digital and physical audio release and is currently performed as an audio visual piece of live coded music with vocals and projected visuals. In some cases the performance is extended into virtual and mixed realities via “xix”.
Experience
„Swells of angelic synthetics intervened in exploded views of dicey percussion rolled across long stretches of time where one could easily trip and fall into the measures between. (…) Unexpectedly organic, she dabbled in a new kind of conversation with the room.“
THE AUSTIN CHRONICLE, MAR. 14, 2019
Why
„bayes“ consists of live coded music with vocals and is performed with projections of a virtual landscape, with dancers and VR / XR extensions. The live coded music represents our future virtual world, which is built only from algorithms. The vocals consist of physical and AI generated vocals and represent the future partly virtual human in the algorithmic world. The music follows the algorithms, not a traditional meter and the voice fits into the algorithms as well. All elements are made out of algorithms and therefore follow the rules of algorithms, not of organic bodies. The dancers also move along the algorithmic structures only. The project is exploring how humans will feel, move and live in future, algorithmic, virtual worlds.
